Diversified Funding: Cultivating Donor Relationships with Integrity

In today’s funding landscape, relationships matter as much as resources—and nonprofits face growing challenges in sustaining them. Donor fatigue, retention, competition, and the rise of new giving trends like crowdfunding and donor-advised funds are reshaping the way organizations must approach fundraising. With 67% of all giving still coming from individuals, cultivating authentic connections remains essential for long-term success.

This workshop will help organizations strengthen their fundraising by focusing on what works: relationship-building, storytelling, documenting impact, and aligning with community needs. Participants will explore how to nurture small donors into larger supporters, sharpen annual appeals, and engage board members as true partners in development. We’ll also discuss how to leverage resources beyond money—like volunteers, partnerships, and technology tools—to streamline fundraising efforts and increase community impact.

Drawing from real-world examples, including the success of Hope’s Harvest—which has recovered more than 1 million pounds of produce since 2018 —this session will highlight the power of collaboration and narrative to build trust with donors.
