Protect Local Food Funding

Congressional members are responding to our demands for permanent investments for local foods in local nutrition programs. We need your help to keep up the momentum and generate strong support in Congress!

Recently, two bills were introduced that would create permanent programs similar to popular local food purchase assistance programs. They would provide funding for all states, Tribes, and territories to purchase fresh produce, meat, dairy, eggs, and other nutritional locally grown products from farmers to distribute in food access programs. These programs are a win-win! Supporting local farmers while ensuring that our most vulnerable neighbors have food on their tables builds community resiliency.

Due September 17th

restoring food security for american families and farmers act of 2025

As the August congressional recess winds down, advocates are working to restore recent budget reconciliation cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the soon-to-be introduced Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025. Advocates can take action in two ways:

Organizations: Sign/share the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025 letter by FRAC, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and other national partners. The sign-on letter urges Members of Congress to support legislation to repeal the harmful SNAP cuts from the budget reconciliation law. Deadline to sign is September 17, 2025;

Individuals: Use the FRAC Action Network (FAN) to send a pre-populated email to your Members of Congress urging them to oppose any Farm Bill that fails to address the recent SNAP cuts and to use every legislative opportunity to restore the cuts to SNAP.

Demand Strong Farm & Food Policy

Due by September 18, 2025

Reaching out with an invitation to join us in sending a letter to Congressional leaders demanding stronger farm and food policy. See details below, and please share this invitation with other aligned networks and/or organizations.

Did you know that we are close to three years overdue on the federal legislation that shapes our nation’s food & farm policy – a farm bill? Congress has failed to advance a fair, resilient, and equitable farm bill, putting at risk the vital programs and resources on which our nation’s farmers and families rely. Even worse, the recently-passed ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ (OBB) ripped apart programs typically held in the farm bill and made the largest-ever cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which will result in more hungry families and children and fewer market opportunities for farmers.

When Congress comes back to Washington, DC this month, they are considering moving forward on a new farm bill – which means NOW is the time to make it clear that the only acceptable farm bill is one that actually invests in a sustainable future and fixes the damage done by OBBB -- Nothing less will do.

Organizations are banding together to deliver a letter to Congress that makes it clear: we are paying attention, and we won’t stand by if lawmakers forgo another opportunity to protect farmers, consumers, and everyone else in between. Congress needs to restore good faith in federal lawmaking by advocating for and safeguarding the essential programs and resources our farmers need to feed us all, especially our most vulnerable neighbors. This is the only way forward – you can read the letter in full here
